Protection of the environment from the effects of ionising radiation.

چکیده
The International Commission on Radiological Protection has existed for 75 yearsand throughout that time has produced recommendations for the protection of peopleagainst the dangers of ionizing radiation. It recognized some 25 years ago that the envi-ronment should also be protected, but the policy was to assume that the protection ofpeople was sufficient to protect other species. The Commission thus regarded the envi-ronmental transfer of radionuclides as important only for the purposes of evaluatingdoses to people. In 2000 the ICRP established a Task Group to recommend whether theCommission should be more specific with regard to protection of the environment and,if so, how it should be addressed. This paper traces the development of the ICRP policyfor environmental radioactivity to the present time.

متن کاملRBE and radiation weighting factors as applied in the context of protection of the environment from ionising radiation
It has long been recognized that the degree of biological impact on an organism resulting from a given absorbed dose of ionising radiation can vary depending upon the type of radiation involved. This difference has been experimentally quantified and reported as the “relative biological effectiveness” (RBE) of specific radiation types. RBE values have been measured for a variety of end points in...
متن کاملA review on combined biological effects of microwave and other physical or chemical agents
With the development of science and technology, microwave has been used in many fields such as industry, military, medicine and communication. People are living in a lapped and dynamic electromagnetic environment. Concerns about potential hazards of microwave are getting increasing attentions. The single biological effects of microwave were widely discussed which was considered harmful. Relevan...
متن کاملResponse to criticism of the paper titled 'Non-targeted effects and radiation-induced carcinogenesis: a review'.
Exposure to ionising radiation is clearly associated with an increased risk of developing some types of cancer. However, the contribution of non-targeted effects to cancer development after exposure to ionising radiation is far less clear. The currently used cancer risk model by the international radiation protection community states that any increase in radiation exposure proportionately incre...
متن کاملNon-Ionising Radiation Protection How much protection is enough?
Non-ionising radiation protection generally proceeds by establishing a dichotomy. Certain effects are regarded as established, and scientific bodies set exposure guidelines designed basically to prevent such effects. At low frequencies the principal such effect is induced electric fields in tissues, and at high frequencies is heating. For all other effects, regarded as not being established, tr...
